What to Read: The Slammer

We've just started getting a weekly newspaper called The Slammer. This newspaper covers all the arrests that were made the previous week in my area.

This newspaper is funny as hell. Why? Because every week there is at least one customer in it. Whenever I see someone I know in this paper, I wait for that person to come into the store so I can laugh and ask them about it.

But sadly, everyone I've ever seen has never been in the store since being featured in this newspaper. I think having their picture posted in it scares some of them into ever venturing into public places again.

I think if my picture was in it I'd put it on a badge and wear it on my shirt every day to work. Maybe it would deter people from fucking with me since they'd know I was "doing hard time" in jail, when in all honesty I'd probably be hit on by a 500 lb. woman with tattoos on her face wanting to make me her "Snuggle Buddy".

Has anyone read this newspaper? It's hilarious to read it every week. I think I'm going to apply to write for them - this stuff is right up my alley!

Note: Check out the girl in the first full row of the picture I've posted - she's having her head held there by a pair of latex-gloved hands. And no, that's not me!

  1. I've seen these folks for real while I was still working. They are a mess often and some are funny but many are not. It's an awful place to be...jail that is.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  3. I love the first dude in that same row (as latex glove lady). While everyone else on the page looks rough or sad or slightly oblivious, that SOB's havin' a great time. Then again, judging by his crime, maybe he's just happy to have a roof over his head for a while.

  4. My cousin was in that a few weeks ago after he got arrested at a Phish concert (I bet you can't guess what for...). I bought a copy & am saving it for him to autograph. I also took a picture of his mugshot & it's now his contact I.D. on my phone.

  5. Hahaha! I haven't seen that paper before, but our local newspaper has "Mugshot Monday" on their website, where you can see all the mugshots for the week. :)

  6. My God, if that's what coke does to your facial hair I'm leaving it alone (Carl Anderson, far right, first full row).

  7. we have something like that here in arkansas called Jailbirds... and same story i see people i know in there.. even saw an ex coworker in there ... some people think its wrong for someone to publish this. But its public records, I think the day my picture would ever be in there i would get a black marker and mark out my picture and name on every issue at our store.

  8. We have the same thing, but its called "Gotcha" in Richmond, VA. I too work in a convenience store, and one time I recognized our paper delivery guy (you know, the one who delivers the "Gotcha!"?) in there for driving without a license.

  9. Haha, that's awesome!! Ours is called 'Busted', and hubs got to where he won't read it anymore, because he ALWAYS knows someone in it. One of the fun quirks of being a lifelong Austinite, I suppose. LOL Gotta love the photos in those things! xD
