Night Shift Weirdos

Many of our customers at night are regulars, on their way to work or coming home from it. But every so often we will get a weirdo or two, which makes me wonder what asylum let them out in the middle of the night.

Whenever I work night shift, I will not hesitate to call the cops if someone looks suspicious. Even if you are constantly pestering me asking stupid questions in the middle of the night just to be funny, I will call the cops on you to get you out of my face.

Some people think that may be too extreme, but most of the time these people are doped up on drugs and could at any time pull a knife or gun on me. So I'd rather be considered 'too harsh' than standing there being robbed or hurt.

It's funny how on night shift people think they can try and convince me to sell them beer after hours.

Hmm...I'll have to continue that thought. Just got called in to work. :-/

Cell Phones

I will probably bring up cell phones a lot here. I hate when people come up to my counter talking on their cell phone. Now, I don't care if you are on your phone and talking to me telling me what you want, at least you're paying attention.

I'm talking about those that are on their phones and completely ignore me asking if they need anything else or when I tell them their totals.

I HATE repeating myself. If you are on your phone and I tell you your total and you look at me mid-sentence and go 'huh?', I am going to say it again louder and slower. So when I do that, don't look at me like I'm the idiot here. Get off your phone and pay attention.

I had a guy the other day that was so loud on his phone that we couldn't hear the other customers. I had to tell him his total twice and even then he took forever to pay me. So when his turn was over, I tried ringing up other customers but this guy just wouldn't move and just kept talking loudly on his phone. When he finally got ready to go, he ended up spilling his coffee all over the place from trying to balance his phone on his ear.

So I got pissed.

I grabbed paper towels and told him to get out. He looked at me and asked what the hell my problem was. (He used nastier words, but I won't repeat them here.)

I told him that he was talking on his cell phone, and that's what my problem was. He responded with 'So what? What does that have to do with anything?'

So I politely (okay maybe not) told him that he spilled his coffee all over the place because he wasn't paying attention and that's why I had a problem. So I told him to get out again. By this time there was a line of customers behind him just watching the whole thing.

So on his way out, he proceeds to cuss me out to this mystery person on the phone calling me a 'crabby bitch'. Other customers heard him and started yelling stuff out after him, but of course he didn't hear because he was on his cell phone.

So please, do your local customer service person a favor. Get off your phone before you come up to the counter. We'll love you for it, I promise!

A Little Piss Here, A Little Piss There....

Apparently a customer came in the other day and asked if he could use the bathroom. Our bathroom is out of order, it almost always is, because people feel the need to steal products from it.

So anyways, he was told that it was out of order. So he goes to the coffee counter, grabs a cup, walks around the corner near the back of the store, and proceeds to take a piss right in the coffee cup while in the store.

An employee saw him doing this, ran over to him and yelled at him to get out of the store. He turned to the employee and smiled, while still pissing away in the coffee cup. So when he finished, he walked outside and emptied the contents of the cup all over the ground, right in front of the front door.

Long story short: he left, the cops were called, they found him and arrested him for whatever you can get arrested for, and the employee ended up having to clean up this guys urine, which apparently got all over the floor and wall.

My question: What in the world would possess a person to urinate in public inside a store? Usually when we tell people the bathroom isn't working, they run outside and go behind the building or something. But not this guy. Maybe he wanted to make a statement?

If I would have seen this happen, I would have grabbed that coffee cup from him and splashed it in his face. Hmm, I wonder if I would have been the one arrested then.

I often wonder if we are the only store to get these weirdos, but at least we didn't have to deal with something like this.

First Day

A little background: I've worked at a gas station for over 15 years. Why, you ask? It's my family's business and it started out that they needed my help when I got out of school. Since then, I've decided to stay because honestly, I can't believe some of the shit people out there do.

I'd like to record it all here. While things people do makes me angry now, I will hopefully look back on these stories one day and laugh about it. Not likely anytime soon, though.

I also hope that if you are a customer in a store (as we all are), that you will learn from these stories and never ever EVER walk into a store and act like this/do these things. Maybe we can all make the world a better place.

Over the years I've collected so many stories that I'd like to share the ones that I can remember. I will definitely update with things customers do currently, but when nothing is going on and the customers are behaving themselves I will resort to the older incidents I've experienced.

I hope you enjoy, and feel free to add stories of your own in the comments!
