Confessions of a Cashier

I'm working on a book about all the customers I've experienced over the years, which is why I haven't been posting much. I'm almost done with it and hope to get it published. Is this even something people would want to read?

I've been reading other books similar to mine, such as Waiter Rant and Retail Hell.

The books above are good, but they don't have a ton of customer stories in them like mine does.

Does anyone know of any other good books like these out there? I'm dying to read more of this stuff. I live for it!

  1. I would read a book like that. I work in a bank and have come across my fair share of oddball customers. I think anyone in retail would love to read it. What would be funny is if someone who's typically a customer and has never worked in retail reads the book and thinks, "Oh my gosh, what a turd!" and they end up being exactly like the person in the story they read about insane customers. I would laugh. I would read. :)

  2. I too would be interested in such a book. I worked in retail for about 20 years and yes, I now take medication for crazy. The flashers. The one guy who said I ruined his life (because whoever cut his key did it wrong.) And the fact that neither the manager nor the assistant would come up and deal with this loud idiot. Sure...leave me to be shot. Well, I'm sure you have experienced all that and more. This is middlechild and once again I am having trouble leaving comments.

  3. I'll bet your book will be a big hit. You write very well and you have some great stories about your weird customers.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  4. Agreed - I'd love to read something like that. I work in a fairly reasonable field and we still get goofball clients. They are everywhere!

  5. I just read a review of a book titled "Malled" about someone who worked in retail for a while. Its on my list to buy. Here's a link to it.

  6. YES. Please. My fiancé and I are eagerly awaiting it. We work in a gas station too and we love your blog! Our store recently got 3rd shift and he's come home with some very interesting stories about drunks. I'll need to try working third shift a few times when I get back from maternity leave so I can experience some of these weirdos.
