License to Drive. Or Kill. Whichever.

I hate it that customers know what kind of car I drive. When I'm not at the store I like to have my own personal time. There's nothing worse than driving in my car, hearing a beep and seeing a customer waving frantically at me just because he saw me on the road and outside of my store. I even had one customer follow me to my house (I didn't even notice I was being followed or else I wouldn't have gone home) just to see where I lived and to make small talk with me as I got out of my car.

So lately I've taken to sometimes driving my husband's car into work. This prompts many questions from customers as to where my car is.

"What's wrong with your car? Is it in the shop?"

"I didn't think you were working today. Where's your car?" and so on and so on.

The worst is when they SEE me driving my husband's car into work.

"Wow! How can you afford a MUSTANG?!? You really make that much on a cashier's salary?" which makes me want to say "Go away, fuckface" but I don't. I just smile politely and tell them it's my husband's car. After that they usually nod with understanding, which confuses me. What if it WAS my car? Are they saying I shouldn't be driving an expensive car just because I'm a cashier?

I seriously can't stand people sometimes. Totally not looking forward to working this weekend. Only 2 more weeks until the Carnival from Hell arrives.

  1. You have the weirdest customers. I don't care where my cashiers live or what they drive. If I see them outside the store I probably wouldn't even recognize. That's because I rarely get the same cashier when I check out.

    People suck.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  3. I have a client who followed me to the grocery store and then to my house.

I did not know this until he came into the office and said "those are some sweet bonsai trees you have in your backyard" and conveniently bumped into me at the grocery store that weekend (two towns over from his house mind you) and then told me he was driving behind me after work one day and just kept following me for the hell of it.

What makes people think it is ok to do these things?!

  5. You and me both!!!
I get customers that will follow me around the store after work as I'm shopping; or out to the parking lot to chitchat. Most of them back off when they realize my dad is picking me up from work and he's a big guy lmao; I love seeing their faces :D

  6. This was WAY before I met my husband. And yes, it was very creepy. Thankfully I lived in a condo complex so he couldn't really tell which one was mine.

  7. At my old job customers would ask what car I drove. I would get away with, "Oh I don't have a car." But, they started noticing I DID have one. However, my sister and I wold use each others cars when we drove to work together. Some days we'd use hers and some days mine. So, the customers would never know what car I drove. However, some figured it out... and some as in the DRUG HEAD. One was a crack head who asked me one day, "What car do you drive? I want to know so I can watch you and look for you." SERIOUSLY? WHAT THE HELL? Then one day i saw him in the parking lot... I tried to hide when i was in my car and lead over but he was me, pointed at me, and then said, "I know your car now!" :| I AM SOO happy i left that job. People are freaking creepy.
