Why People Suck: Cheating at Raffles

We like to have contests and promotions in our store because it helps bring more customers in.

This time we are going to have a raffle for a Red Bull mini scooter, which looks something like this:

Customers get a raffle ticket when they buy any 2 Red Bull products. Sounds simple, right?

Not for our customers. People that buy Monster energy drinks as well as Rockstar are getting pissed off because they don't qualify for the drawing.

Isn't the point of something like this is to have you switch over and start buying the right products for the drawing?

Now I'm getting people yelling at me because I won't give them a raffle ticket to fill out when they come up to the register with something other than Red Bull. Most of these people I've never even seen before!

I'm betting this scooter gets stolen way before the raffle ends. People seem to be frothing at the mouth to get their hands on this thing which is really only big enough for a kid.

  1. I couldn't do what you do. I just couldn't do it. I'd want to murder most of the customers. Rudeness prevails.

Try to have a nice day. :)

  2. I would very calmly explain (the way my Dad used to when telling us we had done something wrong) that they have to buy Red Bull. This is a contest sponsored by Red Bull, and that is a Red Bull bike.

Therefore, it is NOT a Rockstar bike, neither it it their contest. So I can't give you a ticket. It is not a Monster bike, neither is it THEIR contest. So I can't you a ticket.

If you want to buy A can of Red Bull I can't give you a ticket either.

BUT, and here's where your patience and understanding pays off, dear customer, if you buy TWO (hold up two fingers, so they understand) cans of Red Bull and because it is their bike and their contest I can give you a raffle entry.

    "Next, please"

  3. I must say since I have been reading your blog, I am acutely aware of the "cashiers" that I visit on a regular. I try to be polite, but overly cheery and I try not to get too personal with them either. Its hard, because it goes against my nature, I just do my business, be patient, and grateful and get the hell out of the store! LOLOL I love reading your posts - and cant wait for the book?!?!
