5 Hour Energy Woes

We sell a lot of crap in our store. But the one thing that we sell a lot of is this:

5 Hour Energy: I've used it myself many times; especially when I have to work night shift. Sure it sometimes gives me the shakes, but it definitely works to keep me awake!

Now, what I didn't understand, was when they came out with this:

5 Hour Energy DECAF. What the hell is this for? It says on the bottle that it's equal to something like one and a half cups of decaf coffee. Who wants to drink decaf coffee for energy?

I began a search for someone that could tell me what the point of this product was, but no one else knew either.

Sadly, no one bought any of these in our store and shortly after, they expired.

I know I'm just a lowly cashier, but could someone explain to me why they would make a product like this? It's been bothering me for months!

  1. That is so wierd! I've never seen the decaf flavor! I tried Extra Strength 5 Hour one time, but it made my bones shake!!!

Would love to know the answer to this, too...

  2. WTF? Maybe it's to reverse the effects of the normal one?

  3. That's so funny. I had no idea they made that. Isn't the regular one just like caffeine pills washed down with Red Bull?

  4. I'm guessing that marketing genius was fired shortly after. It's one of those gimmicks. "I can get all that energy WITHOUT the caffeine??" Yeah, fortunately most people don't believe that crap.

  5. Yeah WTH, that sounds crazy. I drank one of those and I thought that I was losing my mind. I had the jitters and it took a couple of days to get of the crackhead look.

  6. I almost bust a gut laughing at that! I drink lo-carb energy drinks, because I don't want the sugar calories, but even those aren't anywhere near as popular as full sugar, full ENERGY energy drinks. Decaf makes NO sense whatsoever. Even if the other ingredients work without the caf, it's a terrible marketing ploy.

  7. I've never seen the decaf version. That seems like a pretty lame idea, I can understand why they didn't sell. I've had the energy drinks before and they just give me the jitters but at least I get my work done quick :)

  8. Maybe it just has meth amphetimines instead of caf!

  9. Actually, 5 hour energy has high amounts of B-vitamins. The "decaf" version is actually not caffeine free but rather has less caffeine than the "normal" 5-hour energy.

5 Hour Energy was a life-saver when I drove halfway across the country for a move... no big drink to make me have to stop and pee every 20 miles but still the alertness necessary to drive for 18 freakin' hours!

  11. I have never understood why people don't just buy caffeine pills instead of wasting their money on these things. They're just individual servings of caffeine.
